About Our Branch

Beginning and continuing classes are regularly offered in Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Sonoma. All classes are taught by nationally accredited volunteer instructors. Anyone is welcome to visit a class.

The Taoist Tai Chi Society of the U.S.A. began offering classes in San Francisco in September 1997, a year later in Palo Alto, and in 2001 classes started in Berkeley. Classes in Sonoma began in 2006. Our classes are held in convenient community locations, such as churches, community centers, parks, and other attractive spaces. We established a full time location in San Francisco in 2004.

Today, we have around 100 active members attending regular classes in Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Sonoma. Our members come from very diverse cultural and professional backgrounds and vary in age from teenagers from seniors. The intensity of practice is adjusted to each individual's specific abilities. Within that framework, the form provides challenges that allow each individual to progress at their own pace.

As a nonprofit organization, we are administered completely by volunteers. Our great emphasis on volunteerism serves not only as a way to accomplish tasks of the moment, but as a method of training as integral to the development of good health as any physical exercise. The volunteer aspect of our organization provides many opportunities for members to contribute their time and talents in service of others, and often learn new and valuable skills in the process. The volunteer spirit of the Society also extends to our instruction of taijiquan, which is provided by accredited volunteer instructors.
